Basketball Sign-ups added
10/18/08 at the Big gym from 10-2pm
Basketball season is just around the corner and now is the time to
register for what
is sure to be another exciting year! Last year we had 550 players and we expect
even more this year. Our basketball league is available to players 4-18 years
old.
There will be separate divisions for 4/5, 6/7, 8/9, 10/11, 12/13, 14/15/16 and
17/18
years old. We will make every effort we can to have boys teams, girls teams and
co-ed teams. The deadline for registration is Saturday, October 18th
(late
registrations are an additional $25, if there is space available). Like
past years
everyone has the ability to sign-up by mail. To do that, return the completed
registration
form and a check for registration fee to the address listed below. Anyone who
wishes
to register in person can do so at Fern Creek High School in the lobby of the
big gym
on Saturday, October 4th and 11th,
2008 (10AM – 2PM)
SCHEDULE:
Tryouts will be held at Fern Creek High School on
Sunday, October 26 th. Ages 4-9
meet at the small gym and ages 10-18 meet in the big gym. Tryout times are as
follows:

The eligibility age is the age each player is as of December 31, 2008.
All players trying out will make a team. The purpose of tryouts is to
balance the
teams as much as possible. Every player is expected to attend tryouts.
Games and practices will be
held at various gyms in the Fern Creek area. Each team
will have a one-hour practice on a weekday evening and a game (approximately 1
hour)
on Saturdays or Sundays. There may be some weekends where a team plays more
than
one game.
FEES:
The registration fee is $110 per player (4/5
age group pays $80). Please make checks
payable to: Fern Creek Optimist and return the completed registration form and
a check
for the registration fee to FCO Basketball 10002 Brighton Springs Court,
Louisville, KY 40291.
NOTE: If more than 2 siblings in a family
participate, the cost for the 3rd player is ˝ price.
We Need Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Sponsors:
Volunteers will play an integral
role in the success of the Fern Creek Optimist Program. We
need volunteer coaches and assistant coaches. If you are interested in
volunteering, please mark
the appropriate section of the registration form.
Sponsors are needed. We need 1 company sponsorship for each team. The cost to
sponsor
a team is $100. Something new this year – if a player finds or
provides a sponsor for his/her
team then his/her registration fee is only $75.00 ($50 for 4/5). This discount
is based on availability,
and the sponsor’s check must accompany the player’s check.
